Overview and TaskOver the last few years, technical innovations have made storing information in the cloud simple, secure
and yet highly accessible. Cloud based e-portfolios for students is an excellent option. You will follow the design cycle and record your learning in this new e-portfolio as you go.You will design and create a simple website that will be used as an e-portfolio for all your learning in MYP Design. These websites will have a professional appearance and you will need to pay close attention to the ease of navigation and the aesthetics of your site. We have chosen to use Google Sites for the portfolios because of the many additional tools available from Google and so that your work is completely transferable. You will ensure that your site is secure and that access is restricted. |
Instructions
Task 1. Watch the video and set up your e-Portfolio page. Follow instructions to make it look exactly the same, you will have a chance to play and customize your page later.
The name of your page should be your first name + "e-Portfolio". For example: JD's e-Portfolio

Task 5. Insert the appropriate strands into each part of your criteria. See the example in the picture below.
Task 6. Complete Criteria A, strands 1-4, and update them to your e-Portfolio.
CRITERIA A: Inquiring and Analyzing
I. Explain and justify the need
- Re-write the task in your own words
- What is the problem you need to solve?
- Why is it a problem?
- What are you being asked to do and why?
- Find and cite some research using MLA format that justifies your answers.
II. Identify and prioritize the research
What do you need to know?
1. Make a spreadsheet with the following headings and import it into your e-Portfolio:
- Priority
- Type of Research
- Question
- How am I going to research it?
- Sources
- Answer
2.Copy the following following questions to your chart and place in order of importance. (i.e. What should you complete first?)
3. Add several more things you could/should research to your research chart and give proper citations using MLA format. Use primary research AND secondary research.
4. Make a link to a fun "sandbox" page that demonstrates that you have researched and learned the following skills:

- How to make new pages
- How to insert Google docs
- How to format text
- How to insert flash games
- How to add images to a site
- How to insert videos
- How to create tables
- How to insert a calendar
III. Analyse similar products
- Examine at least one good example AND one poor example of e-portfolios.
- Here is a page where you can find some examples: https://sites.google.com/site/eportfolioapps/overview/examples
- Take screen shots of each and annotate it, highlighting and commenting on the following;
- Aesthetics (colour, fonts, images and overall style)
- Navigation
- Ease of use
- So what? What ideas can you use?
IV. Design Brief
Present the main findings of relevant research
Present the main findings of relevant research
- Write a short conclusion (2-3 paragraphs) of your research into cloud computing and how to create a website using Google sites.
- Write a simple design brief. (What you are going to make, why and who it is for)
Criteria B: Developing Ideas
I. Develop Design Specifications
- Copy and complete the table below onto your site AND add 1-2 addition criteria to each.

File Size: | 99 kb |
File Type: | numbers |
II. Present feasible design ideas, which can be correctly interpreted by others
- Present 3 or more themed design ideas (simple sketches) for a landing page.
- Include navigation, theme, colour combinations, images, layout etc. - Annotate your design ideas to make them easily understandable by your classmates.
- Upload to your webpage
- Evaluate each idea using the above success criteria using a simple ranking system.
- Provide feedback for at least 3 fellow students.
III. Present the chosen design
1. Based upon the above evaluation, present your final design. Good quality sketch or computer generated page layouts.
2. Explain your final choice. Why is this idea better that other ideas?

2. Explain your final choice. Why is this idea better that other ideas?
IV. Create a planning drawing/diagram which outlines the main details for making the chosen solution.
- Create a proposed site map (sometimes called a site diagram or navigation tree) for your site, showing landing pages and parent/child relationships
Criteria C: Creating the solution
I. Construct a Logical Plan
- Create a simple Gantt Chart for the creation of your e-portfolio.
- Include it into your e-portfolio.
II. Demonstrate Excellent Technical Skills
- You should keep a simple Process journal while you are making your site.
- Take screenshots to show how things are done so that your teacher can clearly see that you know what you are doing!
- Include annotations or short explanations of your screenshots to describe your process.
III. Follow the plan to make the solution
- Follow your Gantt Chart and shade when tasks were actually completed.
- Make your site. Keep it professional looking & design related!
IV. Justify the Changes made to the Solution
- As you make your site, you may decide to make changes to your design idea. This is fine, but you need to explain why you have changed your design or plan. (If you have made changes to the navigation tree or page layout for example.)
- Record these changes in your Process journal
